Comprehensive Eye Exams
On average, we recommend scheduling an appointment once every two years to ensure your eyes are remaining healthy. If you have been diagnosed with an eye condition, however, we recommend scheduling an appointment once or twice a year depending on the severity.
Contact Lenses
Nowadays, most people prefer to wear contacts instead of glasses. If you are interested in contact lenses, please let your eye doctor know prior to your appointment. During your exam, we will discuss the various contact lenses available and determine the best option based on your individual needs and lifestyle.
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL)
IPL dry eye treatment is a revolutionary way to provide long-lasting relief from chronic dry eyes. Intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) coupled with low level light therapy (LLLT) can treat dry eyes by opening up clogged oil glands, reducing inflammation, killing microbes, and activating cells around the eyes. IPL will also improve skin tone by reducing fine wrinkles, freckles, and sun damage.
If you are experiencing symptoms of dry eyes our team of doctors will determine the underlying cause and recommend treatments like IPL to maximize your eye comfort and quality of vision. Please book your appointment today.
Hard To Fit Contact Lenses
Here at Downtown Anaheim Family Optometry, we specialize in hard to fit contacts cases. We strive to provide the most comfortable and cost effective contact lens for each and every one of our patients. We begin with a specialized fitting to help determine the ideal match for your specific condition.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy causes problems with your retina, the part of your eye responsible for transferring visual information to your brain for processing. Diabetic retinopathy can cause blood vessels in the retina to leak fluid or bleed, resulting in distorted vision.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.
Cataracts
Cataracts cause a clouding of the lens in the eye, making your vision appear to be foggy. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over 40 and are the leading cause of blindness in the world.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma occurs from damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can often lead to loss of vision and blindness. To detect glaucoma, our highly trained doctors will perform a proper screening to determine severity, examine the damage, and help you manage your glaucoma.
Computer Vision
Computer Vision is a relatively new term within the optometry field and refers to eye problems associated with the prolonged use of computers and electronics that utilize a digital screen. Although it can be temporary, there are times when computer vision can strain the eyes to a degree that permanently affects your vision as well.
Hyperopia
Farsightedness, known as hyperopia, makes it difficult to see objects close by. If you are experiencing farsightedness, corrective lenses such as glasses or contact lenses will be prescribed. After a thorough examination, we will determine the prescription that’s best for you.
Myopia Control
Nearsightedness, known as myopia, makes it difficult to see objects from afar. If you are experiencing nearsightedness, corrective lenses such as glasses or contact lenses will be prescribed. After a thorough examination, we will determine the prescription that’s best for you.
Lasik
LASIK stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis and is a popular surgery to correct vision problems. LASIK can help people who are nearsighted or farsighted, as well those who have astigmatism.
Diabetic Eye Care
While it’s true that the primary symptom of diabetes is high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), it can lead to many other problems throughout the body, including wreaking havoc on your eyes. Some of the most common eye conditions caused by hyperglycemia are cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, which occurs when the tiny blood vessels in your eyes become damaged by the high blood sugar levels over time.
Surgery Co-management
If you are interested in laser surgery, we will begin with a comprehensive eye examination, which will let us know more about you and your needs. We may have to perform some testing to properly diagnose your eye conditions. During this time, the surgeon and staff will go over what you can expect before, during and after the procedure; we want to make sure to give you realistic answers for your unique vision.
Dry Eye Treatment
Downtown Anaheim Family Optometry is proud to offer dry eye treatment for our patients. Ocular Surface Disease, also known as dry eye, can occur from certain medications, naturally by aging, or as a symptom arising from systemic diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, or Lupus. If you have a minor case of dry eye, you may be experiencing irritation, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, and/or a burning sensation in your eyes.
Ortho-K
If you are looking for an alternative to laser surgery that can improve your vision in a similar fashion, you may be interested in orthokeratology, or more commonly known as “ortho-k”. Ortho-K involves temporarily reshaping the cornea through the use of specialized contact lenses.
